Three members of the cardinal and white were recognized by their respective conference with a Player of the Week nod. Freshmen
Jana Strait of women's soccer and
Kayla Balsamo of field hockey were tabbed Rookie of the Week for the East Coast Conference and Northeast-10 Conference, respectively, while graduate student
Kiarra Roth of volleyball was named the ECC's Player of the Week.
Balsamo made her first two career starts in net, putting up double digit saves in both contests. The New Jersey native averaged 12.5 saves per game on the week, putting up 12 against Mercy (Sept. 25) where she allowed just two goals, before adding 13 stops at Saint Michael's (Sept. 28).Â
Strait scored twice in the second. half to lead Molloy to a 2-0 victory over Mercy (Sept. 28) in East Coast Conference play.
Roth was an attacking force for the Lions on the week, topping 20 kills in both wins. The senior had 21 kills to go with nine digs, two aces, and two blocks against Pace (Sept. 24) to start the week). Opening league play against Roberts Wesleyan, the outside hitter set a career-high 27 kills, attacking at a .353 clip, while putting up six blocks, six digs, and three assists. On the week, Roth averaged 5.33 kills per set and attacked at a .285 percentage.
