Sprint Football Opens Home Slate Against STAC

Uniondale, N.Y. - The Molloy sprint football team played its inaugural home game tonight from Mitchel Field against Saint Thomas Aquinas College. The Lions fell, 59-7, and sit at 0-2 on the season while the Spartans improved to 1-1.

How it Happened
  • After nearly a scoreless first quarter, Jeremy Schucker nailed a 28 yard field goal to put STAC on the board.
  • In the following possession, the Spartans put together a nearly seven minute drive that resulted in a three yard touchdown pass from Ryan Kenny to Jayden Bennermon.
  • STAC would score again in the final minute of the opening half to lead, 17-0 at the break.
  • The visitor would score 42 points in the second half to reach 59 points.
  • The Lions would get on the scoreboard in the team's final possession of the evening. Junior quarterback Paulie Drummond had two long rushes paired with a crucial third down conversion rush from freshman running back Jovanni Elysee.
  • Drummond sent a 28 yard pass into the arms of freshman Peter von Schoenermarck to put the Lions on the board. Freshman Timmy Stosko was successful on the extra point attempt to round the score out at 59-7.
  • Drummond had eight completions for 91 yards and a touchdown. The junior also led the Lions in rushing yards with 46 in 15 attempts.
  • Elysee followed, putting up 32 yars on seven attempts while freshman David DiGiovanni had 16 yards on 10 attempts.
  • Von Schoenermarck led with four receptions for 61 yards while senior Ryan Tropp had 30 yards in four receptions.
  • On defense, freshmen Marquis Dixon and Max Kraemer each had six tackles, with Kraemer having four solo to pace the team.
  • Elysee had five tackles and one sack while freshman Anthony DiSalvo added four solo tackles.

Molloy will remain at Mitchel Field next week as they welcome Caldwell University on Friday (Oct. 4) for a 7:00 p.m. start.
