Garden City, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team fell, 3-1, to local rival Adelphi University Tuesday evening at Motamed Field. The Lions move to 3-4 on the campaign, while the Panthers improve to 4-2-1.
How it Happened
- 35 seconds into the contest, junior Matt Star looked to crack the scoreboard, but his attempt was saved.
- Adelphi would create three chances in three consecutive minutes with two shots missing target and one shot being saved by freshman Callum Hunt in the seventh minute.
- 10 minutes later, senior Sean Salgueiro fired a shot that was saved by the Adelphi goalkeeper.
- The Panthers capitalized in the 27th minute netting the game's first goal to pull in front, 1-0.
- The home team would continue its pressure, looking to extend the lead to two over the next six minutes of action. Hunt was forced to make one save while two other chances were sent wide of target.
- In the 34th minute, sophomore Mathew Broadhead tried his shot to knot the game at one, but the attempt was sent left of goal.
- With 1:43 remaining in the first half, Adelphi would find the back of the net to extend its lead to 2-0 heading into halftime.
- Five minutes into the second half, senior Connor Gervasi the best chance of the evening for the Lions, firing a shot that would ring off the crossbar to keep the Lions off the board.
- The Panthers would net its third goal in the 64th minute and hold the Lions to one shot on goal for the remainder of the contest, to go on the seal the victory, 3-0.
