Ithaca, N.Y. - The Molloy sprint football team made history, competing in the program's first-ever contest this afternoon against Cornell from Schoellkopf Field. The Lions were defeated, 53-7, and fell to 0-1 while the Big Red improved to 1-0.
How it Happened
- The cardinal and white started on defense and allowed the Big Red just 45 yards, forcing a punt after prompting a false start penalty on a fourth and two.
- Junior quarterback Paulie Drummond IV rushed for 12 yards and completed an eight yard pass to sophomore receiver Peter von Schoenermarck in the Lions' first-ever drive, but were also held off the board.
- After a nearly scoreless first quarter of play, Cornell scored a touchdown on a 21 yard pass in the final two minutes. The Big Red also recorded a safety to make it 9-0 after 15 minutes of play.
- The home team would put up 30 points in the second quarter and lead 39-0 at the break.
- Cornell scored two rushing touchdowns in each of the final two quarters.
- Molloy got on the board in the fourth quarter. Facing a third and 15, Drummond launched a 65-yard touchdown pass to von Schoenermarck before freshman kicker Timmy Stosko's successful extra point to round out the score at 53-7.
Top Performances
- Drummond had five completions for a total of 113 yards and a touchdown.
- Freshman Marquis Dixon led the running game, logging 36 yards on four carries.
- von Schoenermarck tallied 81 receiving yards on three receptions, including the touchdown.
- Freshman Anthony DiSalvo led the defense with a total of seven tackles, including five solo. Freshman Jovanni Elysee also recorded five solo tackles and added on assisted for a total of six.
- Dixon and freshman D'Angelo Cabrera each recorded five tackles.
- Freshman Chaz Kitsakos combined for 104 yards on punt and kickoff returns.
