Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Despite a fury of chances in the second half, the Molloy men's soccer team fell to the Tigers of Holy Family, 1-0, Tuesday evening at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions move to 2-3 on the campaign, while the Tigers improve to 1-3-1.
How it Happened
- Senior Connor Gervasi generated the first chance of the evening in the ninth minute with a shot that went wide.
- Freshman goalkeeper Callum Hunt was tested in the 12th minute but made an easy save on the first shot he faced.
- Following a corner kick by the Lions in the 17th minute, junior Santi Vasquez had his header shot denied by a member of the Tigers back line at the near post.
- Freshman Eduardo da Rosa Sostisso had his free kick denied in the 30th minute.
- Holy Family broke through in the 33rd minute, after Hunt saved an initial shot, the rebound found the back of the net to give the road team a 1-0 lead.
- The final chance of the first half came from sophomore Steph Maurice in the 39th minute, but his attempt was saved, sending the game to halftime with Molloy behind, 1-0.
- In the opening two minutes of the second half, Gervasi looked to tie the game, but his shot went wide right of target.
- Hunt was challenged in the 55th minute but the goalkeeper made a save to keep the contest within one goal.
- Between the 65th and 73rd minute the Lions were relentless in its attack, searching for the tying goal. Molloy totaled seven shots and five on target, highlighted a header from Maurice that got past Holy Family goalkeeper Luke Shank, but the keeper got back to his line just in time to save it and keep Holy Family in front.
- In the 85th minute, the road team looked to seal the contest, but Hunt came up huge with a sliding save to keep the contest at 1-0.
- Molloy was unable to generate another chance in the contest as Holy Family would prevail with a 1-0 victory.
