West Babylon, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference released its Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as well as the Scholar-Athletes of the Year for each of its championship sports for the 2023-24 campaign Tuesday afternoon.
Senior
Sarah Tappeto was named the Overall Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the conference and was named the Scholar-Athlete for women's soccer. Joining Tappeto as Scholar-Athletes in their respective sports are graduate student
Steph Conrade (softball), junior
Eric Anderson (outdoor track and field), and junior
Faith Rousseau (outdoor track and field).
Graduating with one of the most decorative careers in Molloy women's soccer history, Tappeto etches her name in the record book once again, becoming the first student-athlete in women's soccer history to be named the league's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The senior becomes the third student-athlete to be named the Scholar-Athlete for the sport of women's soccer.
A CSC and D2CCA First Team All-American and USC First Team All-East Region selection this fall, Tappeto holds a 3.92 GPA in accounting/finance. The senior back was voted the ECC Defensive Player of the Year after totaling 20 points on seven goals and six assists, while anchoring the Lions' defensive unit to its third East Coast Conference Championship in the last four seasons.
Conrade becomes the third member of the softball program's history to be named the ECC softball Scholar-Athlete, joining Nicolette Sinagra (2013) and Tracey Balinskas (2016).
Conrade carries a 3.88 GPA in her five-year, secondary education combined undergraduate and graduate program. The ECC All-Conference First Team selection topped the ECC with 28 stolen bases and 12 sacrifice hits, while hitting .326 with 60 hits, three doubles, three triples, and 16 runs batted in for the Lions, who earned a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship this spring.
After earning the ECC Elite-20 award this season, Anderson joins Brian Michaels (2018-19) as just the second student-athlete in men's track and field program history to be named a Scholar-Athlete by the league. Anderson, holds a 3.92 GPA in education and won the 400-meter hurdles (56.22) and 4x400 meter relay (3:25.71) at the ECC Championship as a senior this spring.
Rousseau sets a new precedent in Molloy women's track and field history, becoming the first student-athlete in the sport's history to be named an ECC Scholar-Athlete. The junior holds a 3.88 GPA as a psychology. Rousseau won both the javelin (34.35m) and shot put (11.70m) and placed second in the high jump (1.55m) to score 24 of Molloy's 44 points at the ECC Championship.
