Flushing, N.Y. - The men's basketball team won its second-straight conference contest this evening from Fitzgerald Gymnasium topping the Knights of Queens College, 96-85. Molloy improved to 6-16 on the season and 4-7 in East Coast Conference play in the victory while the Knights fell to 12-10 (6-5 ECC).
How it Happened
- The teams exchanged leads to start the contest until three-pointers from graduate students Jalen Rosemond and Bobby Connors, a three-pointer from junior Mick Browne, and a jumper from sophomore Dimitri Garrett gave the cardinal and white a 17-10 lead eight minutes into the game.
- Queens would come within five, 28-23, with 6:16 left in the opening half.Â
- The half would end on a 20 point run from the Lions that saw 16 points from freshman Rob Matos and four from junior Matt Lane, sending Molloy into the locker room with a sizable 48-23 advantage.Â
- Neither team scored back-to-back baskets to start the second half until two foul shots from Matos and a jumper from freshman Manu Alford put the Lions ahead by 30, 59-29.Â
- Down by 23 with as little as 4:20 left on the clock, the Knights would cut the deficit in half to 11, 96-85, before time expired to give Molloy the victory.
Top Performances
- Matos led the Lions with 27 points and three assists, including shooting 10-of-11 from the foul line.
- Alford had a career-high 19 points in the effort, shooting 50 percent from the floor while adding six rebounds and two steals.Â
- Browne netted 17 points to go with seven boards, two helpers, one block, and one steal.
- Rosemond tallied 16 points while pulling down five boards.
- Lane tied a career-high with a game-leading 15 rebounds.Â
