Rochester, N.Y. - The men's basketball team fell to the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University this afternoon, 92-82, from the Vollar Athletic Center. Molloy falls to 6-17 (4-8 East Coast Conference) in the defeat while Roberts Wesleyan improves to 10-11 (7-5 ECC) in the victory.
How it Happened
- Despite taking an early 2-1 lead following a layup from junior Matt Lane, the Lions struggled early and fell behind by as many as 17 points, 19-2, seven minutes into the contest.
- The Lions would come within 11, 21-10,following an 8-2 run that included four points from graduate student Jalen Rosemond, a three-pointer from freshman Saba Beroshvili and a free throw from freshman Bryce Merchant.
- Merchant would score four points in the span of 21 seconds to bring Molloy within eight, 37-29, with just under three minutes remaining in the first half.
- The home team would net 11 of the final 14 points to lead 47-32 at the break.
- The Redhawks' lead would increase to as many as 21, 68-47, with 11 minutes left in the contest.
- A 10-3 run that including made foul shots from juniors Mick Browne and Terence Crowley as well as freshman Rob Matos would bring the Lions back within 11, 74-63, with six minutes to play.
- Once again, the cardinal and white would work the deficit to less than double digits in the final two minutes, but the effort would not be enough for the victory, falling 92-82.
Top Performances
- Matos led the Lions with 19 points on the afternoon.
- Merchant (16) and Beroshvili (10) both knocked down career-high point totals with Beroshvili adding three assists.
- Browne tallied 11 points to go with two steals.
- Crowley netted eight points.
- Rosemond and redshirt junior Sey Dieng each pulled down nine rebounds while Lane added eight.
