Garden City, N.Y. - The men's basketball completed the season-opening Conference Challenge with an 82-62 loss to Pace University this afternoon from the Center of Recreation and Sport. Molloy opens the season with an 0-2 record while the Setters improve to 2-0.

How it Happened

• With the score tied at four, the Setters jumped ahead with a 10-2 run that lasted over seven minutes of play and led 14-6 midway through the first half.
• A three-pointer from junior Payton Shumpert and layup from sophomore Rob Matos brought the score within three, 14-11.
• Pace would extend the lead to as many as nine before taking a 34-26 advantage into the locker room at the break.
• A dunk from graduate student Matt Lane and layup from sophomore Bryce Merchant would cut the deficit to six, 38-32, with just over 15 minutes left to play.
• The Setters would net six of the next seven points to lead by 11 and would maintain a double digit lead through the remainder of the contest.

Top Performances

• Matos topped 20 points for the second-straight contest, putting up 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting while adding three rebounds and two assists.
• Merchant had a season-high 11 points while pulling down five rebounds.
• Freshmen Joshua Malcolm and Sebastian Bosquez each netted six points with the latter topping the team with three helpers.
• Lane led the lineup with six rebounds.
• Senior Terence Crowley rounded out the top scorers with seven points and two blocks.
• Senior Mick Browne matched a career-high three blocks.
