Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's basketball team opened the home portion of the season with a 76-67 loss to Holy Family University. The Lions fall to 0-3 on the season while the Tigers improve to 3-1. 

How it Happened

• The Tigers scored the opening bucket of the match, a three-pointer from Omarion Jett. Four foul shots from sophomore Bryce Merchant paired with a jumper from sophomore Bryce Merchant knotted the contest, 9-9.
• HFU responded with a 9-5 run to lead, 18-14. The visitors would maintain the lead through the end of the first half and took a 30-21 lead into the locker room.
• Two three-pointers from junior Payton Shumpert and a pair of foul shots from graduate student Matt Lane brought the Lions within five, 41-36, with just over 14 minutes left in the contest.
• Holy Family would respond with a six-point run to regain a double digit lead that it would maintain through the remainder of the contest.

Top Performances

• Matos led all scorers with 25 points and topped the score sheet with four steals while adding five rebounds and three assists.
• Merchant Netted 19 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
• Shumpert tallied nine points, all coming from three-point range.
• Lane had 10 boards and added eight points.
• Freshman Joshua Malcolm led with five assists.
