Riverdale, N.Y. - The men's basketball team fell to the Lions of Lincoln University, 100-78, this afternoon from the campus of Manhattan University as part of the Harlem Renaissance Classic. Molloy fell to 1-4 with the loss while Lincoln improved to 2-3 in victory.
How it Happened
- The teams were evenly matched through the opening minutes until Lincoln opened up an 11-4 run to lead 29-21 with just over six minutes remaining in the opening half.
- A three-pointer from junior Payton Shumpert and foul shots from sophomore Rob Matos would cut the deficit to three, 33-30, but Lincoln closed the half on a 19-5 run to lead 52-35 at the break.
- The Lions of Lincoln maintained a nearly 20-point advantage through much of the second half before earning the victory.
Top Performances
- Matos led with 18 points, five assists, and two steals, going 12-of-17 from the foul line.Â
- Shumpert followed with 15 points, three of his six field goals coming from long distance.
- Sophomore Bryce Merchant also netted three treys and totaled 12 points.
- Freshman Sebastian Bosquez led with five rebounds while Shumpert, senior Mick Browne, and graduate student Matt Lane each pulled down three.
