Volleyball Stumbles Against Daemen

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team was able to take the first set in this afternoon's contest against the Wildcats of Daemen University, but fell 3-1 from Bob Houlihan Gymnasium. Molloy sits at 11-5 on the season and 2-1 in East Coast Conference play while Daemen improves to 10-4 (3-1 ECC).

How it Happened
  • A 6-1 run early in the first set put the Lions in front, 11-5. The run featured two runs from junior Teresa Moulder plus a kill and an ace from senior Kiarra Roth.
  • Molloy would maintain its advantage with Moulder and Roth combining for six more kills in the opening set victory.
  • After exchanging points in set two, four-straight points from Daemen put the Wildcats ahead, 6-3. 
  • Molloy would trail the remainder of the set to knot the score. 
  • The score would be tied nine times in the third set, including as late as 18-18. 
  • The Wildcats closed out the set by taking eight of the final 10 points. 
  • Daemen opened set four on a 5-1 run. 
  • An eight-point run from Molloy knotted the score at 12, including four kills from freshman Isabella Rios and two aces from senior Alex Brown
  • The score would be tied six more times, including 23-23, until Daemen sealed the victory with the final two points.
Top Performances
  • Roth led Molloy with 17 kills, adding five digs and two aces.
  • Senior Rebecca Meier followed with 13 kills and three digs. 
  • Moulder and Rios each managed seven kills.
  • Graduate student Julia Zalta tallied 42 assists along with eight digs and two aces.
  • Junior Aria Miller led with 10 digs, adding five assists and two aces. 
  • Brown had eight digs and topped the team with three aces.
