New Haven, Conn. – The Molloy men's soccer team defeated the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 2-1, Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup. The Lions move to 6-6-4 on the campaign, while the Owls move to 5-7-3.
How it Happened
- After neither team recorded a shot on goal in the opening 10 minutes, Southern Connecticut found the back of the net in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
- Freshman Charlie Morgan notched the first shot on goal of the evening for the Lions in the 12th minute, but his attempt was denied by Southern Connecticut goalkeeper Devin Juan.
- Molloy found the equalizer in the 20th minute when junior Santi Vasquez scored his first goal of the season.
- The Owls would total three shots in the final 25 minutes of the opening half with two missing target and one being saved by freshman Callum Hunt.
- The Lions were held without a shot following its goal, sending the contest into halftime all knotted up at one.
- After three shots in the first six minutes of the first half from the home team that did not land on target, Molloy took a 2-1 lead off a shot from sophomore Steph Maurice in the 54th minute.
- For the remainder of the contest, Southern Connecticut would total five shots, but none would force Hunt to make a save as Molloy would hold on to secure the victory, 2-1.
