Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team stepped out of conference play Tuesday afternoon, hosting Assumption University. The two teams battled for 90 minutes but ultimately drew, 0-0, at John A. Darcy Field. With the result, the Lions now stand at 4-5-3 on the season, while the Greyhounds move to 3-6-2 on the campaign.
Prior to the start of the contest, the program celebrated its members of the senior class:
Diogo Ferreira (Computer Science),
Kevin Graca (Accounting),
Nick Leon (Biology),
Ollie Murch (Management), and
Sean Salgueiro (Business Management).
How it Happened
- Through the opening 15 minutes, both teams traded shots by the opponents back line.
- In the 20th minute, freshman Brennan Murphy created space for a chance, but had his chance denied by Assumption goalkeeper Iver Sjavag.
- Freshman Callum Hunt was challenged in net in the 25th and 30th minute, but both shot attempts were saved, keeping the game scoreless.
- Assumption had a golden chance to score in the 34th minute. With Hunt coming off his line, the Greyhounds looked to score off the foot of Jorgo Karamelo, but the shot was saved by a member of the cardinal and white.
- The Lions would have two chances for the remainder of the first half, but neither opportunity would land on target, sending the contest into halftime, 0-0.
- Coming out of halftime, the game turned into a possession contest, as neither team generated a shot on goal in the opening 15 minutes.
- Following a foul by the Lions in the 59th minute, the road team was awarded a penalty shot. Penalty kick taker Cody Holbert stepped up and sailed his shot high, in what would be the best chance of the afternoon for the squad.
- In the 62nd minute, sophomore Mathew Broadhead flicked a header on goal, but the chance was saved.
- Seven minutes later, the Lions would have its best chance of the afternoon. Following a clearing attempt by the road team, junior Matt Star had the ball fall to him inside the six-yard box, but his shot would go wide of the far post, keeping the Lions off the board.
- The 72nd minute saw Hunt make his best save of the contest with a diving stop to his left, keeping the contest without a score.
- With 11 minutes to play, the cardinal and white would have its final chance of the contest. Freshman Brennan Murphy opened a chance, but sent his shot high of target and the contest would end in a scoreless draw.

- Ferreira and Broadhead lead squad with three shots including one on goal apiece.
- In goal, Hunt made six saves.
