Broadhead’s Second Half Goal Brings Men’s Soccer to 1-1 Draw at D’Youville

Buffalo, N.Y. – Following a goal in the 73rd minute from sophomore Mathew Broadhead, the Molloy men's soccer team remained unbeaten in East Coast Conference play drawing with D'Youville, 1-1, Satuday afternoon. The Lions move to 4-5-2 overall and 2-0-2 in conference action, while the Saints move to 2-7-3 overall and 0-2-2 in league play.
 
How it Happened
  • 90 seconds into the contest, senior Nick Leon threatened with a shot that was saved by D'Youville goalkeeper Matthew Solorio.
  • Four minutes later freshman Eduardo da Rosa Sostisso looked to crack the scoreboard, but his shot rang off the post to keep Molloy off the board.
  • The first chance of the game for D'Youville came in the 21st minute with a shot that went wide of target.
  • Senior Sean Salgueiro generated a chance in the 23rd minute, but his chance was denied keeping the contest scoreless.
  • In the 35th minute D'Youville broke through, scoring the game's opening goal from Sean Burke to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Lions would generate one final chance of the opening 45 minutes with 42 seconds to go, but junior Michael Hofmann saw his chance go high to send the contest into halftime with Molloy behind, 1-0.
  • Freshman Brennan Murphy created the first chance for the Lions in the second half with a shot that went wide five minutes in.
  • Seven minutes later Murphy, once again looked for the equalizer, but this time the shot banged off the post leaving the Lions scoreless.
  • In the 66th minute, the home team looked to pad its lead, but freshman Callum Hunt made a save to keep Molloy within one.
  • The cardinal and white found the equalizer in the 73rd minute. Following a clear from the Lions midfield, Broadhead sprinted into his offensive third of the field and fired a shot that cleared the goalie and one-hopped into the net to even the contest at one.
  • The Saints would generate a pair of chances in the 80th and 85th minute, but Hunt would make two saves and the clock would wind down to zero with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

  • Broadhead netted his first goal of the season.
  • Leon and da Rosa Sostisso led the team with three shots.
  • In goal, Hunt made six saves.
