Buffalo, N.Y. - The men's basketball team bounced back with a victory over the Saints of D'Youville University from the College Center Gym this afternoon. Leading the contest from nearly open to close, the Lions improve to 4-15 on the season and 2-6 in East Coast Conference play. The loss sets D'Youville at 6-14 (3-5 ECC).
How it Happened
- The home team would score four of the first five points of the game on back-to-back layups, but that was the largest lead the Saints would establish throughout the contest.
- Molloy responded with a layup and a pair of free throws from junior Matt Lane and a jump shot from graduate student Bobby Connors to lead, 7-4.
- D'Youville would go on to tie the score at nine and then later again at 13 with 12 minutes to play in the first half.
- The Lions didn't miss an attempted shot for nearly three minutes, capitalized by a three-pointer from junior Billy Reyes to set the advantage at 26-19.
- The Saints would work the score within two, 26-24, but a nine-point run established a double-digit lead for Molloy headed into the final five minutes of the half.
- D'Youville would net six points in the final two minutes to come within three, 44-41 but a made free throw from redshirt sophomore Sey Dieng gave Molloy a two-possession lead at the break.
- The teams exchanged buckets in the opening minute, but the cardinal and white pulled back in front on the back of a 20-6 run through the first six minutes of the second half, leading 65-51.
- The Lions would lead by as many as 20 before securing the 95-80 victory.
Top Performances
- Molloy shot at nearly 50 percent from both the field and long distance on the contest and missed just three of 38 free throw opportunities.
- Reyes led with 22 points off the bench, shooting 5-of-8 from the field, including four triples, and making all eight free throws.Â
- Browne had a season-high 17 points in the effort and led the team with five assists to go with a block and a steal.
- Lane had his second career double-double with 13 points and a team-leading 13 rebounds.
- Graduate student Jalen Rosemond also netted 13 points.
- Connors led with two steals.Â
