Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's basketball team fell to the Knights of Queens College, 84-75, this evening from Quealy Gymnasium. Molloy sits at 2-13 on the season and 0-5 in East Coast Conference play while Queens improved to 8-7 (3-2 ECC).
How it Happened
- The teams exchanged buckets to start the contest, with no one maintaining more than a single-possession advantage until a three-pointer from Sunnie Diamond put the Knights in front, 16-12.
- The visitors remained in front the remainder of the first half and carried a 40-35 lead into the break.
- A jumper from freshman Rob Matos and dunk from junior Matt Lane opened the scoring for Molloy in the second half to come within one.
- A 15-3 run from Queens regained the lead for the Knights, 55-42, with 16 minutes left in the contest.
- A 10-1 run from Molloy that included six points from freshman Bryce Merchant brought the Lions within four, 56-52, with 12:22 on the clock.Â
- Trailing by eight, five points from graduate student Bobby Connors and two from redshirt sophomore Sey Dieng cut the deficit to just one point, 60-59, with less than 10 minutes left in the second half.
- With 8:49 on the clock, the cardinal and white went on a nine-point run to take the lead for the first time this evening, 68-62.
- The Knights ended the contest on a 22-7 run to take the victory.
Top Performances
- Connors led with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds while adding five assists and two blocks.
- Matos netted 13 points and added three assists.
- Junior Mick Browne dished out a team-leading six assists while adding three blocks to go with eight points and five boards.
- Lane also had three blocks while netting seven points.Â
- Freshman Manu Alford led with two steals and netted nine points. Dieng and Merchant also each scored nine points.
