Volleyball Sweeps STAC

Sparkill, N.Y. - The volleyball team topped the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 3-0, in the debut match between the two programs. Molloy attacked at a .310 clip, the team's second most effective match of the season, while holding STAC to a negative percentage. The victory sets the Lions at 5-9 on the season and 2-2 in East Coast Conference play while the Spartans fell to 2-7 (0-3 ECC)

How it Happened
  • The Lions opened the contest on an 8-2 run on two kills from sophomore Sara Hiebert and one each from sophomore Aria Miller, senior Chye Davis, and senior Kiarra Roth. 
  • Hiebert would add three more kills in the first set en route to the 25-15 victory.
  • The Spartans opened the second set with three-straight points and would maintain its advantage halfway through the set.
  • Trailing 11-9, the visitors put together a six-point run on blocks from Davis and Roth as well as kills from the duo and junior Roberta Monticelli and a service ace from Miller.
  • STAC would be able to come within one, but Molloy maintained its advantage through to its 25th point.
  • A 5-0 run to open the third set sealed the victory for the Lions. 
Top Performances
  • Hiebert led with a career-high nine kills and seven blocks. 
  • Davis put up eight kills and six blocks.
  • Both Monticelli and Roth had seven kills and combined for eight blocks and five digs.
  • Miller rounded out Molloy's scoring leaders with four kills and topped the squad with 10 digs and three aces. 
  • Freshman Hope Carolan tallied eight digs and four assists.
  • Graduate student Mariana Donado Yepes had 27 assists and four blocks.
