ECC Softball Championship Preview: #4 Queens vs. #1 Molloy

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The top-seeded Molloy softball team takes on the fourth-seeded Queens College Knights on Wednesday, May 3 in the first round of the ECC Championship at the RVC Sports Complex.
 
About #1 Molloy:
  • The Lions finished the regular season 29-19 overall and 15-5 in ECC play. The .750 conference winning percentage was the program's best mark since 2017.
  • Molloy has won four East Coast Conference titles (2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016).
  • Senior Steph Conrade led the ECC in stolen bases (29) in the regular season and finished third in the conference in batting average (.345).
  • Graduate student Alex Burns led the ECC in RBI (33) and also finished second in the league in home runs (8).
  • Graduate student Amanda King has done it all for the Lions this season, hitting .309 with 12 doubles, three home runs, and 21 RBI at the plate to go with a 3.40 ERA in 127.2 innings in the circle with 64 strikeouts.
  • Transfer junior pitcher Brianna Macias has made a huge impact in her first season in Rockville Centre, posting a 2.29 ERA (2nd in ECC) to go along with 12 wins.
Postseason History:
  • The Lions were the number three seed in last spring's ECC Championship and reached the championship game before falling to Bridgeport 2-0.
  • Molloy started its tournament run with a first round loss to Bridgeport before defeating fourth seeded Mercy 4-1 and upsetting top-seeded STAC 4-1 in the semifinals.
#4 Queens:
  • The Knights entered the week 10-30 overall and 7-11 in ECC play.
  • Pitcher Allyson Dilday leads Queens in the circle, posting a 2.30 ERA in 125 innings in the regular season with 101 strikeouts.
  • The Lions took three of four games against Queens this season, sweeping them in a doubleheader in Rockville Centre on April 4 and splitting the doubleheader at Queens on April 27th.
  • Molloy leads the all-time series against Queens 44-25-1.
 
The Field:
#2 STAC:
  • The Spartans entered the week 26-16 overall and 13-5 in ECC play.
  • STAC has been dominant in the circle all season, posting a 1.92 ERA as a team.
  • ECC Pitcher of the Year candidate Carissa Della Vecchia has led the way with a 1.44 ERA and is 12th in the nation with 190 strikeouts.
  • Abbie Landrum posted a 1.92 ERA in the circle and led the Spartans in batting average (.337).
  • Molloy and STAC split the regular season series 2-2.
#3 Mercy:
  • The Mavericks finished the regular season 15-29 overall and 10-10 in ECC play.
  • Catcher Cayla Crawford leads the way for Mercy at the plate, leading the conference in batting average (.456) which is also good for 24th in the country.
  • The Lions went 3-1 against the Mavericks this season, sweeping them in a doubleheader at home on March 30 and splitting a doubleheader at Mercy on April 22.
  • Molloy leads the all-time series against Mercy 55-20.
