West Babylon, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference released its weekly awards this afternoon, and four members of the cardinal and white came away with major awards with three others being named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
The Lions took two of the three major awards for softball this week, with
Amanda King winning Pitcher of the Week and
Emily McGurk coming away with Rookie of the Week honors. King tossed three complete games and compiled a 1.75 ERA with over three strikeouts per seven innings. The graduate student struck out six batters against Hillsdale, allowing just one earned run. At the plate, she hit .400 with six hits, three doubles, and an RBI while scoring seven runs. McGurk hit .556 on the week for the Lions, totaling five hits and driving in two runs. The freshman hit her first career home run in her first at bat at Bob Klein this weekend against Jefferson, going 4 for 5 in the doubleheader with two RBI, two runs scored and the homer.
Alex Burns was named to the Weekly Honor Roll as well. She drove in a team-leading eight runs on the week and hit .353 at the plate. The senior collected a hit in five of six games, including two games of .500 performances at the plate.
On the women's lacrosse field,
Megan Rugolo came away with Offensive Player of the Week. The conference's lead point-getter on the season had 13 points in a 2-0 week for Molloy. The sophomore scored four goals with two assists against Holy Family and three goals and four assists against Saint Thomas Aquinas. On the week, the midfielder also added nine ground balls, three caused turnovers, and three draw controls.
For men's lacrosse,
Thomas Kofod was honored with the conference's Defensive Player of the Week award. Kofod was a force in the midfield for the Lions last week, picking up a total of 14 ground balls and forcing eight turnovers. The freshman tallied eight ground balls and five caused turnovers against Chesnut Hill before scoring a goal and adding six ground balls and three caused turnovers against D'Youville.
On the baseball diamond, starting pitcher
Charlie Cucchiara and outfielder
Garrett Scavelli were named to the Weekly Honor Roll this week. Cucchiara threw seven innings in his first home start of the season, allowing one run on three hits while striking out a season-high nine batters to improve to 3-1 on the season. Scavelli provided a spark to the Lions lineup hitting in the two hole. The junior collected four multi hit games, including a pair of three hit, four RBI performances. To cap the week, the center fielder hit .500 (10 for 20), drove in nine runs, scored seven runs, hit two home runs, stole three bases, and got on base at a .560 clip.
