Amherst, N.Y. - The second-seeded volleyball program will return to the East Coast Conference Championship game for the second-straight season, topping the third-seeded Mavericks of Mercy, 3-1. Molloy improved to 14-13 on the season with the victory and will take on top-seeded Daemen tomorrow (Nov. 18) at 5:00 p.m. from Lumsden Gymnasium.
Prior to the game, senior Madison Wakely was awarded the ECC Elite 20 Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing at each of the league's 20 championships. Wakely has a 4.0 GPA as a psychology major.Â

How it Happened
- The Lions started the contest on a 6-2 run with two kills from graduate student Chye Davis and senior Kiarra Roth paired with a service ace from junior Roberta Monticelli.Â
- The Mavericks would tie the score with a five-point run, 10-10.Â
- The score would be tied six times until kills from Monticelli and sophomore Sara Hiebert helped Molloy to a 21-18 advantage.
- Kills from Monticelli and Davis and serving from sophomore Keri Carlin helped the Lions finish out the set, 25-20.
- The teams were back and forth to start the set until a three-point run gave Mercy an 8-5 lead.
- Molloy would come within one, 8-7, but the second set belonged to the Mavericks.
- Tied four times to start the third set, kills from Hiebert and Roth helped the Lions to a 7-5 advantage.Â
- Kills from Davis, Roth, and junior Rebecca Meier paired with two aces from sophomore Aria Miller guided Molloy to a 20-11 lead that Mercy would be unable to come back from.Â
- Strong play from Roth and Davis, contributing both kills and blocks, helped the Lions to a 6-2 lead to start the fourth set.Â
- The Mavericks would rally to knot the score at 18 and then again at 22 before kills from Monticelli and Meier and a block from Davis and Roth finished out the contest for the Lions.
Top Performances
- Davis topped the Lions with 16 kills, attacking at an even .500 while adding two blocks.
- Roth had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs while adding three blocks.
- Meier and Monticelli each tallied nine kills with Monticelli adding 11 digs and two aces.
- Molloy's offense was rounded out by six kills from Hiebert, who also chipped in two blocks and three digs.
- Graduate student Mariana Donado Yepes put up 41 assists to go with six digs, one kill, one ace, and one block.
- Miller had 17 digs, five assists, and two aces.
- Junior Alex Brown finished with eight digs while Carlin had one service ace.
