Matos Nets 22 in Men's Basketball Loss to #15 East Stroudsburg

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's basketball team succumbed to #15 East Stroudsburg University, 79-62. Molloy fell to 0-3 with the loss while ESU improved to 3-0.

How it Happened
  • The Warriors opened the contest on a 10-0 run through six minutes of play.
  • After a time out from Head Coach Charles Marquardt, the Lions cut the deficit to five on a layup and foul shot from freshman Rob Matos and a layup from junior Mick Browne. 
  • Following a 12-3 run later in the half, Molloy took its first lead of the evening, 23-22. In the scoring stretch, Matos, redshirt sophomore Seydina Dieng, and graduate student Bobby Connors each hit jumpers while Connors and junior Billy Reyes each sunk three-pointers. 
  • The pair would exchange one-point leads until a layup from Matos and three-pointer from Reyes put the cardinal and white ahead, 28-24, with six minutes left in the first half.
  • The score would be tied twice more in the final minutes before a three-pointer for the Warriors set the score at 36-34 at the break.
  • ESU quickly jumped out to a double digit lead to start the second half, eventually leading by as many as 18 points, 61-43, en route to the victory.
Top Performances
  • Matos led the home team with 22 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field, while adding three assists.
  • Reyes also reached double digits with 14 points while adding four rebounds.
  • Browne netted eight points while pulling down four boards.
  • Graduate student Jalen Rosemond led with 10 rebounds while adding four points.
  • Connors pulled down seven boards and added three blocks and five points. 
  • Dieng nabbed three steals.
