Volleyball Sweeps Bloomfield

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team saw contributions across the entire roster in a definitive 3-0 sweep over the Bears of Bloomfield College this evening from Quealy Gymnasium. The win, Molloy's third in a row, sets the squad at 7-9 on the season while Bloomfield fell to 1-7.

How it Happened
  • A three-point run early in the first set that included a kill from sophomore Roberta Monticelli and blocks from sophomore Sara Hiebert and senior Kiarra Roth gave Molloy a 7-2 advantage.
  • Bloomfield would come within one, 8-7, but an 8-1 run for the home team would give the Lions a lead that they would not relinquish.
  • A kill and ace from junior Alex Brown and blocks from junior Julia Zalta and senior Chye Davis gave the Lions a 7-3 lead in the second set.
  • Molloy put up a second length streak of five points on kills from Roth,  senior Colleen Moulder, and junior Rebecca Meier as well as an ace from Zalta to go ahead 14-6.
  • The Bears would score just six points the remainder of the set.
  • The third set saw Molloy trail for the first time, 3-2, before blocks from Brown and senior Madison Wakely gave Molloy the one-point swing.
  • The contest would go on to be tied six times, including as late as 24-24. 
  • Kills from Zalta and Wakely finished off the contest in favor of the Lions.
Top Performances
  • Moulder topped Molloy with eight kills on 10 attacks.
  • Brown added six kills to go with five digs and two aces.
  • Meier and freshman Erin Stanley each added five kills with Meier topping the team with three aces and seven digs.
  • Davis and Monticelli each put up four kills.
  • Zalta had 25 assists while graduate student Mariana Donado Yepes had seven and freshman Hope Carolan had two.
Up Next
The Lions will be on the road on Saturday (Oct. 7) at Roberts Wesleyan University. The match is slated for 12:00 p.m. from Rochester, N.Y.
