Volleyball Ends Non-League Play with Sweep at SCSU

New Haven, Conn. - The volleyball team concluded the non-league portion of its regular season schedule with a 3-0 victory over the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University this afternoon from Pelz Gym. Molloy improved to 11-12 on the season while SCSU fell to 11-15.

How it Happened
  • The Lions opened the contest on a 6-1 run that featured three kills from senior Kiarra Roth and one from senior Chye Davis.
  • SCSU would tied the contest at 12 before an ace from senior Mariana Donado Yepes helped the cardinal and white regain a 15-12 advantage.
  • The home team would come within one three times, including as late as 22-21, but a kill from Donado Yepes began a a set-winning three-point run for Molloy.
  • After trailnig 10-6 in the second set, the Owls responded with a six-point run to take a 12-10 lead.
  • Molloy would tie the contest at 14. The game would go on to be tied six more times, including during a five-point run that would lead to the 25-23 victory for the visitors.
  • The Molloy offense pulled in front by a lengthy margin again in the third set, taking an 8-2 lead with two blocks and a kill from Davis and two kills from Roth.
  • The Lions would maintain its advantage through the end of the contest, finishing the game on a four-point run.
Top Performances
  • Molloy held the Owls to just 20 kills for the match.
  • Roth topped the Lions with 13 kills while adding seven digs and two aces.
  • Davis put up four blocks to go with seven kills
  • Juniors Rebecca Meier and Roberta Monticelli each had four kills. Meier added 10 digs and a block while Monticelli had nine digs and an ace.
  • Sophomore Aria Miller led with 20 digs and chipped in three assists.
  • Junior Alex Brown also reached double digits with 13.
  • Graduate student Mariana Donado Yepes served up two aces while recording 26 assists and seven digs.
