Volleyball Swept at Adelphi

Garden City, N.Y. - The volleyball team made the short trek to the Center for Recreation and Sport for a non-conference matchup against the Panthers of Adelphi University, falling in three sets. The Lions sit at 7-11 on the season while Adelphi improved to 13-5.

How it Happened
  • The home team led from the opening point, beginning the contest with back-to-back kills.
  • Molloy would come within one on four occasions, but were unable to catch the Panthers.
  • The teams exchanged points to open the second set, tying the contest four times.
  • Adelphi would score five-straight points to lead 9-4, a deficit the Lions were unable to make up.
  • The visitors led in the second set on a kill from senior Kiarra Roth. 
  • Five points from the Panthers would regain the lead, 6-2, for Adelphi.
  • Back-to-back kills from senior Chye Davis later in the set would take Molloy within one, 7-6, but AU would regain a four-point advantage.
  • The Lions would come within one again, 13-12, but the remainder of the set and match belonged to the Panthers.
Top Performances
  • Roth led the cardinal and white with seven kills and added nine digs, one ace, and one block.
  • Davis tallied five kills to go with two blocks.
  • Sophomore Roberta Monticelli led with four blocks to go with four kills and four digs.
  • Sophomore Aria Miller had five digs, one ace, and two kills.
  • Freshman Hope Carolan, sophomore Keri Carlin, and junior Rebecca Meier each tallied four digs with Meier adding three kills.
  • Graduate student Mariana Donado Yepes led with nine assists while junior Julia Zalta had seven and Carolan had three.
  • Junior Sara Hiebert put up two blocks.
