Rockville Centre, N.Y. - For the first time since the 2016-17 season, the men's basketball swept the regular season series against Daemen University, topping the Wildcats 71-62 this evening from Quealy Gymnasium. In the victory, sophomore guard
Darren Fergus netted his 1000th career point. Molloy improved to 8-14 on the season and 7-3 in East Coast Conference play while Daemen fell to 12-7 (5-4 ECC).
How it Happened
- The teams exchanged baskets, tying the score four times in the opening eight minutes, including 11-11 with 12:48 left in the first half.
- A 10-2 run that featured two three-pointers from sophomore Billy Reyes and four points from freshman Deshaun Warren put the Lions in front, 21-13, with just under nine minutes on the clock.
- Molloy would lead by as much as 15 in the first half, but the Wildcats scored nine points in the final two minutes of the first half to trail by five headed into the break, 35-30.
- The visitors would come within two, 40-38, but a 15-2 run that featured five points from Fergus, six from sophomore Kenny Lazo, and four from redshirt junior Kendell Ogilvie, put the cardinal and white in front, 55-40, with 14 minutes left in the contest.
- Molloy's lead would increase to as much as 19, 68-49, before earning the victory.Â
Top Performances
- Fergus led with 25 points in the historic performance, adding five rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals.
- Warren put up 12 points to go with five rebounds and one steal.
- Lazo netted 11 points while Reyes rounded out the top scoring with 10.
- Senior William Muller pulled down 15 rebounds and had two steals and one block.
