Fergus Posts 38 Points in Men's Basketball Victory Over Mercy

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's basketball team defeated the Mavericks of Mercy College, 97-84, this evening from Quealy Gymnasium. It is the program's highest scoring game since February 6, 2020. The Lions improved to 7-12 on the season and 6-2 in East Coast Conference play while Mercy sits at 2-13 (1-6 ECC).

How it Happened
  •  Molloy opened the contest on a 6-0 run that included five points from senior William Muller.
  • The Mavericks would tie the contest, 8-8 with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. The score would be knotted four more times over the next eight minutes, including 21-21 with 7:28 left in the half.
  • The teams remained within one point of one another until a seven point run from the visitors put them in front, 31-25.
  • Mercy would extend its lead to as much as 10 before taking a 40-34 lead into the break.
  • Trailing 49-42, Molloy had an 18-3 run to lead, 60-52 with 13:30 left in the contest.
  • Mercy would come within four with 12:24 on the clock, but the final 12 minutes belonged to the Lions, who took a 13-1 run to lead 73-57. 
  • Molloy would lead by as much as 20, 91-71, before time would expire.
Top Performances
  • Sophomore Darren Fergus netted a career-high 38 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field and 15-of-18 from the foul line to go with eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
  • Muller pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds to go with 17 points for a double-double while dishing out four assists.
  • Redshirt junior Kendell Ogilvie had 14 points and four rebounds.
  • Sophomore Matt Lane put up nine points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.
  • Sophomore Mick Browne dished out a career-high seven assists.
