Men's Basketball Downed at Staten Island

Staten Island, N.Y. - The men's basketball team slipped to the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island this afternoon from the Sports and Recreation Center, 84-70. Molloy fell to 6-12 on the season and 5-2 in East Coast Conference play while CSI improved to 5-11 (3-4 ECC).

How it Happened
  • The Lions opened the contest on a 10-2 run that included seven points from senior William Muller and three from sophomore Matt Lane.
  • The Dolphins would respond with an 11-2 run of its own to lead, 13-12, with 13 minutes to play in the opening half.
  • The teams would trade buckets until the home team once again until a 20-3 run established a 35-19 lead in favor of the home team headed into the final five minutes in the half. 
  • Molloy would net the next nine points to come within seven before the half would end with CSI in front, 42-32.
  • The second half would begin with nearly two minutes passing without a basket before the Dolphins took a 14 point lead, 46-32.
  • A three-pointer from sophomore Kenny Lazo and free throw from sophomore Darren Fergus would bring Molloy within 10, but Staten Island scored the next 13 points to lead 59-36 with just under 14 minutes to play.
  • The Lions would be unable to get the deficit under double digits before time expired.
Top Performances
  • Fergus led the Lions with 14 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high nine assists and six steals. 
  • Sophomore Terence Crowley matched a career high 14 points that featured a 4-of-5 performance from long distance.
  • Lazo finished with 10 points and three steals. 
  • Muller and freshman Jake Lynch each added nine points.
  • Freshman Dashaun Warren pulled down seven boards.
