Albany, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team fell to the College of Saint Rose, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Sullivian Field. The Lions moved to 1-1-2, while the Golden Knights improved to 2-1.
How it Happened
- Stout defense was the name of the game in the first 20 minutes, as neither backline allowed a shot on goal.
- In the 29th minute, a goal from Golden Knights back Nick Koenig gave Saint Rose a 1-0 lead.
- Molloy looked to answer quickly in the 32nd minute, as sophomore Matt Laya-Vetell put a shot on goal but was denied by Saint Rose goalkeeper Ryan Henning.
- Junior Edwin Castellon fired a shot with four seconds remaining in the opening half but went wide. Molloy trailed, 1-0, heading into halftime.
- In the opening minutes of the second stanza, junior Danny Muir created an opportunity with a shot that was denied.
- Saint Rose looked to increase its lead in the 63rd minute, but graduate student Nick Conklu denied the chance from the home team to keep the contest at, 1-0.
- Back-to-back shots from Laya-Vetell had the Lions on the prowl in the 70th minute, but the cardinal and white were held off the scoreboard.
- The Golden Knights tallied their second goal of the game in the 82nd minute and would go on to secure the victory, 2-0.
