Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Slips to Adelphi, 2-1.

 
Garden City, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team fell to the Panthers of Adelphi University, 2-1, Wednesday evening at Motamed Field. The Lions moved to 2-2-3, while the Panthers improved to 3-1-2.
 
How it Happened
  • Both teams kicked off the contest with several shots in the first 10 minutes of action, but none forced either goalkeeper to make a save in the early going.
  • In the 11th minute, graduate student Nick Conklu made his first save of the contest stopping a shot from Panthers forward Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca.
  • A few minutes later, Descalzo Rocca tried Conklu again, but the Arlington native denied his opportunity.
  • In the 33rd minute, sophomore Gio Fabiano put the first shot on goal for the Lions but was denied by Adelphi goalkeeper Harry Beasley.
  • With a limited number of chances on both sides, the game was scoreless going into halftime.
  • Two minutes into the second stanza, Adelphi netted the first goal of the contest to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Midway through the second half, freshman Adam Lesniewski created an opportunity but put a shot just high of the crossbar.
  • In the 67th minute, Adelphi midfielder Matteo Lazzarini put the Panthers ahead, 2-0.
  • With 7:23 remaining, Molloy drew a foul inside the 18-yard back to set up a penalty kick. Junior Jonas Jacobsen was tasked to go to the penalty spot, where he converted bringing Molloy within one, 2-1.
  • The Lions would create two chances in the final three minutes of action, but freshman Tommy Baratta and junior Danny Muir had opportunities go wide of the net, Adelphi would go on and close out the contest victorious, 2-1.
Top Performances
  • Jacobsen netted his second goal of the season.
  • Conklu made three saves.

The Lions return to conference play Saturday, September 17 as they travel to Sparkill, N.Y. to take on St. Thomas Aquinas. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
