Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team topped the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 2-1-3 and 1-0 in ECC play, while the Dolphins dropped to 1-4 and 0-1 in league play.
How it Happened
- Freshman Devon Seneca sent a shot high in the seventh minute for Molloy's first chance.
- Shots by junior Danny Muir and graduate student Matthais Adamek had their shots blocked, as the Dolphins backline refused to give into the Lions pressure.
- In the 25th minute, CSI defender Dennis Coticelli saw his shot go wide.
- Neither team was able to generate any additional chances has defense was the name of the game in the first half. The contest was scoreless going into halftime.
- Molloy generated the first scoring opportunity in the second stanza, Seneca had his shot saved by CSI goalkeeper Amari Thompson.
- Seneca had his third opportunity of the contest at the goal, but his shot was saved yet again by Thompson.
- After a foul in the box, junior Jonas Jacobsen stepped to the penalty spot and blasted the games first goal into the bottom right corner. Molloy took a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute.
- Molloy would put the game away for good in the 75th minute, sophomore Matt Laya-Vetell found a streaking Gio Fabiano who chipped it over the goalkeeper into the back of the net. Molloy increased it lead to 2-0.
- CSI had a couple of chances late, but had a pair of shots were blocked, as Molloy would go on to close the game with the 2-0 victory.

- Jacobsen netted his first goal of the season.
- Fabiano totaled his third goal of the 2022 campaign.
- In goal, graduate student Nick Conklu wasn't forced to make a save and picked up his second shutout of the season.
