East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Molloy men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season defeating the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University, 1-0, Sunday evening at Eller-Martin Stadium. The Lions improved to 1-0-1, while the Warriors fell to 1-1.
How it Happened
- Defense was the name of the game in the first 15 minutes of action, as neither team was able to generate any scoring opportunities.
- ESU registered the first shot on goal of the contest. A header from Trevor Paone was stopped by graduate student Nick Conklu to keep the game scoreless in the 17th minute.
- The Lions threw two shots wide in the final 10 minutes of the first half. The game remained without a score heading into halftime.
- Eight minutes into the second stanza, the Warriors put their second shot on goal, but Conklu denied the opportunity.
- Molloy added their first shot on goal in the 61st minute. Freshman Devon Seneca had his shot saved by ESU goalkeeper Brayden Evans.
- The Lions increased their offensive pressure minutes later, putting four shots on goal, including a pair from sophomore Sean Salgueiro, but the Warriors would not allow Molloy to break through. Evans made all four saves to keep the contest without a score with 19 minutes remaining.
- Conklu matched ESU goalie Brayden Evans with three consecutive saves over the course of the next 12 minutes of action.
- In the 88th minute, a crossing pass from the corner from freshman Adam Lesniewski found the head of Seneca, who found the back of the net to clinch the team's first win of the season, 1-0.
