Pellicane Announced as Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

The Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame released its Class of 2022, which will be recognized in a ceremony on May 18 at East Wind in Wading River. Head Women's Basketball Coach Joe Pellicane was among the 21 individuals selected in the largest class in the institution's history. The full list can be found here.

Coverage on Coach Pellicane's induction was done by both the Long Island Herald and the Patch.

Coach Pellicane has spent the past four decades dedicating himself to the sport of basketball and enriching the lives of his student-athletes, spending time at the helm of both men's and women's programs with ample success. The past seven seasons have been spent guiding the Lions to four East Coast Conference Tournaments (including one championship) and two NCAA Tournaments in the past six seasons.

Pellicane harbored a 542-377 coaching record headed into the 2021-22 season. A seven-time ECC Coach of the Year recipient, Pellicane's teams have racked up 29 postseason appearances, six NCAA Tournament appearances, four NJCAA Tournament appearances, seven top-25 national rankings, 56 All-Conference players and seven All-Americans.

Before leading the maroon and white, he guided the Dowling College women's basketball team for nine seasons, including leading the Golden Lions to the National Championship Game on the back of a 30-4 record and a top-ranked defense. For his efforts, Pellicane was tabbed the Division II All-Met Coach of the Year and the Division II Bulletin National Coach of the Year.

Prior to transitioning to the women's game, Pellicane spent 13 years leading Dowling's men's basketball program. The Golden Lions appeared in two NCAA Tournaments and Pellicane was selected the NYCAC Coach of the Year for the 1998 season.

Pellicane, a Dowling College alum, was inducted to the school's Hall of Fame in 2002.
