Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The women's basketball team closed out the home portion of the 2025-26 season with a 73-61 victory over the University of the District of Columbia. The win sets the Lions at 12-15 on the season and 10-5 in East Coast Conference play, The 10 conference wins marks the most since the 2021-22 season.
Before the game, the program celebrated the three members of the senior class that will be graduating this spring:
Colleen McCullagh (nursing),
Sophia Yearwood (criminal justice), and
Rosa Rizzitelli (criminal justice).
The game would be tied six times, including as late as 39-39 with just over four minutes left in the third quarter. Back-to-back layups from McCullagh paired with five points from Yearwood helped give the Lions a 48-44 lead headed into the final frame. Molloy would go to the line 15 times in the final 10 minutes, sinking all shots to hold on for the victory. Over the entire game, the Lions did not miss a single shot from the foul line, finishing just three free throws shy of the all-time record.
McCullagh led all scorers with 26 points and added nine rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Yearwood followed just behind with 25 points, including going 10-of-10 from the charity stripe and added eight boards. Freshman
Sharmeela Ugbogbo led with 13 rebounds while adding six points and two blocks. Rizzitelli had eight rebounds to go with seven points and three assists. Sophomore
Jamie Davneiro led with five assists, adding six points and four rebounds. Freshman
Monique Echols rounded out Molloy's scoring with three points.
The Lions will close out the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 28) at the College of Staten Island at 1:00 p.m.
