Men's Basketball Ends 2022 Year at New Haven

West Haven, Conn. - The men's basketball team concluded the 2022 calendar year in non-conference action at the University of New Haven, falling to the Chargers, 97-72, from Charger Gymnasium this evening. Molloy slipped to 4-9 on the season while UNH improved to 7-3.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Billy Reyes would put the Lions in front, 3-2, with a three-pointer in the opening minute but Molloy would trail the remainder of the first half.
  • A second three-pointer from Reyes and a layup from sophomore Darren Fergus would bring the visitors within one on two occasions, but the Chargers gained a double-digit lead and maintained it through the final 10 minutes of play in the half, leading 54-35 at the break.
  • The home team opened the second half of action on a 10-2 scoring run, leading 64-37 with 17 minutes to play.
  • The Lions would come within 19, 70-51, following an 14-6 run with just over 11 minutes remaining on the clock. In the run, Fergus netted seven of the team's 14 points. 
  • Molloy would be unable to bridge the gap any further, shooting just 36 percent from the field in the second half.
Top Performances
  • Fergus led the Lions with 18 points, shooting 8-of-16 while adding four rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
  • Senior William Muller tallied 13 points to go with a team-leading six boards and three assists.
  • Sophomore Terence Crowley sunk a career-high 10 points in the effort, including two three-pointers, while adding three steals.

The Lions open the 2023 portion of the schedule on Wednesday (Jan. 4) at Queens College in East Coast Conference action. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. from Flushing, N.Y.
