Rochester, N.Y. - The men's basketball team snapped its three-game conference win streak this afternoon at the Voller Athletic Center, falling to the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan, 83-76. The loss puts Molloy at 4-8 on the season and 3-1 in East Coast Conference play while the Redhawks improved to 4-7 (2-1 ECC).
How it Happened
- Sophomore Darren Fergus opened the game with three three-pointers, paired with a layup from senior William Muller to give Molloy an 11-2 lead in the opening five minutes of play.
- A triple from sophomore Kenny Lazo and buckets from Muller and sophomore Billy Reyes increased the visitor's lead to 10, 18-8.
- Roberts Wesleyan responded with a 13-2 run to take its first lead of the contest, 21-20 with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
- A Reyes jumper briefly regained the lead for the Lions, but the Redhawks fired off 16 of the next 21 points to go in front by 10, 37-27.
- Trailing by nine in the final two minutes, Molloy had an eight-point run to end the first half that featured three-pointers from Reyes and redshirt junior Kendell Ogilvie and a fastbreak layup off a steal from Fergus to trail 40-39 at the break.
- Muller would score the first bucket of the second half to put the visitors in front by one, but Roberts Wesleyan would score the next six points.
- Back-to-back layups from Ogilvie brought the Lions within one, 46-45, but a 13-point run would give the Redhawks a lead that would withstand the remaining 13 minutes of play.Â
