Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Despite a 29-point performance from sophomore
Darren Fergus, the men's basketball team fell to Southern Connecticut State University, 83-60. The loss is the team's fifth-straight to open the season while SCSU improved to 2-3 in the victory.
How it Happened
- An eight-point run helped the visiting Owls go in front, 10-3, in the opening minutes of play.
- Trailing by as much as 10, a nine-point run from the Lions brought the home team within one, 15-14, with 12 and a half minutes in the first half left to be played.
- After neither team netted a basket for one minute, SCSUÂ put together a 12-2 run to take its largest lead of the evening, 27-16.
- Four points from senior William Muller would bring Molloy within five, but the Owls netted the next 11-straight to go in front, 41-22, with just under four minutes on the clock.
- Fergus scored 10 points in the final two and a half minutes to set the score at 43-33 at the break.
- Five points from Fergus and a layup from freshman Dashaun Warren brought the Lions within three to open the second half of action before an 11-0 run from SCSU put the visitors back in front by 16.
- Molloy was unable to come within 10 points of the Owls in the final 11 minutes.
Top Performances
- Fergus' 29 points led all scorers, shooting 9-of-19 from the field, 3-of-6 from long distance, and 8-of-10 from the line. The guard also added four rebounds, one assist, and a team-leading three steals.Â
- Muller also reached double-digits, putting up 16 points to go with nine rebounds and two helpers.
- Redshirt junior Kendell Ogilvie topped Molloy with three assists and added nine points.Â
