Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Despite coming within one in the final minute, the men's basketball team was unable to complete the comeback against the Greyhounds of Assumption University, falling 60-57. Molloy sits at 0-6 on the season while Assumption improved to 3-3.
How it Happened
- The Lions started the contest on a 6-0. run with baskets from sophomore Darren Fergus, redshirt junior Kendell Ogilvie, and freshman Deshaun Warren.
- The Greyhounds responded with the next six points to knot the contest.Â
- Two jumpers from Warren and one from sophomore Kenny Lazo put Molloy in front, 12-9 before a layup from Ogilvie increased the lead to 14-9 with 10 minutes left in the first half.
- With four an a half minutes until the break, the Greyhounds tied the contest, 17-1 7 before the teams traded triples to set the score at 20-20.Â
- Fergus would score the final six points of the half for the Lions, but it would be the visitors who would carry the one-point advantage into the locker room, 27-26.
- The first six points of the second half went in favor of Assumption to increase the lead to seven, 33-26.
- Molloy would come within two, 33-31, before the Greyhounds took its largest lead of the contest, 53-44, with eight minutes to play.
- A 13-5 run in the final seven minutes would bring the Lions within one, 58-57, but the clock would expire before they could knot the score.
Top Performances
- Fergus led all scorers in both points (20) and rebounds (14) for his first double-double of the season. The guard also added a game-high five assists.
- Muller tallied 13 points while Warren had 12 to go with two steals and six rebounds.Â
- Ogilvie pulled down 10 points while putting up six points, two blocks, and two steals.Â
- Lazo dished out three assists.
