Two Net 20 Points in Men's Basketball Loss to Adelphi

Flushing, N.Y. - Despite 22 points from sophomore Darren Fergus and 20 points from sophomore Mick Browne, the men's basketball team fell to the Panthers of Adelphi University, 91-87, this afternoon from Fitzgerald Gymnasium on the campus of Queens College. The Lions fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss while Adelphi improved to 1-1 with the victory.

How it Happened
  • Adelphi led by as many as 20 points, 44-24, with six minutes left to play in the first half.
  • Molloy responded with a 10-point run spanning three minutes to come within 10 with field goals from Fergus, Browne, senior William Muller, redshirt junior Kendell Ogilvie, and sophomore Kenny Lazo. 
  • A jumper from Miller and layup from Browne would bring the Lions within six, 48-42, with under one minute left to play in the first half. 
  • Fergus netted a last-second jumper to set the score at 50-44 headed into the break.
  • The second stanza started with a six-point run from the cardinal and white with layups from Ogilvie and Fergus and a jumper from Muller to knot the score at 50.
  • A 12-6 run gave the Lions its largest lead of the afternoon, 62-56, topped off by a three-pointer from sophomore Billy Reyes with 13 minutes left in the contest.
  • The Panthers responded with a 13-5 run to lead, 70-67, with just over 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
  • A five-point run from Reyes put the Lions in front, 72-70, but Adelphi promptly tied the contest. 
  • The game would be tied twice more until an eight-point Adelphi run put them ahead 84-76 in the final three minutes. 
  • Molloy was able to come within two, 84-82, but ultimately ran out of time, falling 91-87. 
Top Performances
  • Browne and Fergus were joined in double-digits by Muller (15) and Reyes (12). 
  • Muller also added nine rebounds and four assists. Browne pulled down a career-high eight rebounds in the effort.
  • Lazo topped the squad with six assists to go with eight points and five boards. 
  • Ogilvie also chipped in eight points to go with four rebounds and one block.

Molloy will open the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday (Nov. 16) against Southern New Hampshire University at 7:00 p.m. from Quealy Gymnasium.
