Flushing, N.Y. - The men's basketball team fell in the 2022-23 season opener to Pace University, 71-55, this evening from Fitzgerald Gymnasium on the campus of Queens College.
How it Happened
- The Lions netted the first two baskets of the game to take a 5-0 lead on a layup and three-pointer from redshirt junior Kendell Ogilvie.
- The Setters would knot the score, 8-8. The contest would go on to be tied six more times in the first half, including a jumper from senior William Muller to make it 25-25.Â
- Pace responded with a 15-point run to lead, 40-25 with just under two and a half minutes remaining in the first half.
- Molloy would go 6-for-7 from the charity stripe to come within 10, but were unable to make any shots from the field, setting the score at 41-31 at the break.
- The Lions would come within six, 44-38, in the second half, but shot just 28.57% in the last 20 minutes of action, falling 71-55.
Top Performances
- Muller led the team with 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while also adding three steals.
- Ogilvie and sophomore Darren Fergus each added 11 points with Fergus topping the team with four steals.
- Freshman Jake Lynch pulled down six boards and six points while dishing out two assists in his debut with the cardinal and white.
- Sophomore Mick Browne also nabbed three steals.
