Roth Notches Double-Double in Volleyball Loss at Queens

Flushing, N.Y. - Despite 13 kills and 11 digs from junior Kiarra Roth, the volleyball team fell in three sets to the Knights of Queens College this evening from Fitzgerald Gymnasium. The loss sets Molloy at an even 8-8 on the season (2-2 East Coast Conference) while Queens improved to 7-10 (2-2 ECC).

How it Happened
  • The score was tied eight times through the first half of the first set until a four-point run with a kill and block from freshman Kaitlin Jordan and a block from sophomore Julia Zalta helped Molloy to an 18-14 lead.
  • The home team would later string together a seven-point run to lead, 23-20.
  • Molloy would come within one, 23-22, before Queens earned the final two points to take the one set lead.
  • Two kills and a block from sophomore Alex Brown helped the Lions to a 10-9 lead in the second set, but three-straight points quickly gave the lead back to the Knights.
  • Molloy would come within two, 17-15, but Queens would lead through the end of the set.
  • After trailing for much of the final set, the Lions put together a seven-point run, including four-straight kills from Roth, to take a 21-19 lead.
  • Roth would add one additional kill to give Molloy a 22-20 lead, but the final five points of the set fell in favor of Queens to give the home team the victory.
Top Performances
  • Roth led with 13 kills and 11 digs.
  • Junior Colleen Moulder tallied six kills.
  • Zalta put up 26 assists to go with four digs, three kills, one ace, and one block.
  • Junior Kathleen Doherty and freshman Maya Akana also recorded an ace for the Lions with Brown adding seven digs.
