Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Battles Roberts Wesleyan to 1-1 Draw.

 
Rochester, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at The Soccer Stadium. The Lions moved to 7-2-6 overall and 5-0-2 in ECC play, while the Redhawks moved to 7-4-3 overall and 3-1-3 in league play.
 
How it Happened
  • The first shot of the afternoon found the back of the net. Senior J.P. Rodriguez scored off a feed from Danny Muir to put Molloy ahead, 1-0, in the sixth minute.
  • The home team looked to tie it in the 17th minute, but graduate student Nick Conklu denied the chance.
  • Sophomore Matt Laya-Vetell fired a shot in the 34th minute that was stopped by Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper Jared Gibbons.
  • Sophomore Connor Gervasi and Muir had opportunities to increase the lead, but the Redhawks goalkeeper kept the Lions at bay.
  • Molloy led 1-0 going into halftime.
  • Rodriguez opened the second stanza with a goal scoring chance, but had his shot saved.
  • The home team had a chance to tie the contest, but Dylan Ruiz put his shot high in the 61st minute.
  • Junior Ryan Dobson has his opportunity saved in the 68th minute.
  • In the 78th minute, the Roberts Wesleyan drew a foul inside the 18-yard box, and Ruiz converted a penalty kick to knot the contest at one.
  • The Redhawks looked to take the lead in the 81st minute, but Conklu made his second save of the afternoon to keep the game tied.
  • Molloy countered two minutes later to try and steal the game. Graduate student Nicolay Kutzop saw his shot saved in the 83rd minute.
  • Roberts Wesleyan had one final opportunity in the 89th minute, but a shot by Tamas Nagy did not convert, ending the game in a 1-1 tie.
 
Top Performances
  • Rodriguez netted a goal and led the team with four shots and three shots on goal.
  • Muir dished out an assist.
  • Conklu made two saves.

Molloy returns home to host Millersville Wednesday, October 19 in its final home game of the regular season. Kick-off with the Marauders is set for 7:00 p.m.
