Flushing, N.Y. – On a cold, rainy afternoon the Molloy men's soccer team defeated the Knights of Queens College, 2-1, Saturday evening at Queens College Field. The Lions improved to 5-2-5 overall and 4-0-1 in ECC play, while the Knights fell to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.
How it Happened
- Molloy's first shot of the contest found the back of the net in the 8th minute. Junior Ryan Dobson buried an opportunity from junior Jonas Jacobsen to give Molloy a 1-0 lead.
- The Knights looked to knot the contest two minutes later, but their opportunity was saved by graduate goalkeeper Nick Conklu.
- The next 20 minutes of action turned into a defensive battle, as both backlines did not allow a shot.
- In the 34th minute, senior striker J.P. Rodriguez found netted the second goal of the evening to give Molloy a 2-0 lead.
- The Lions had one more chance in the first half, but junior Danny Muir had his shot saved by the Knights goalkeeper.
- The Lions led, 2-0, going into halftime.
- The home team began the second half with three shots, but only one forced a save from Conklu.
- The road teams only shot of the half came in the 77th minute. Sophomore Gio Fabiano had his attempt saved by goalkeeper Dario Cruz.
- In the 88th minute, Queens cut the contest to, 2-1, with a goal from Finlay Armond.
- Molloy would go on to close the contest victorious, 2-1.
