Rindge, N.H. – The #3 Molloy baseball team picked up two wins to advance to the NCAA East Regional Final Monday at Papas Field. The maroon and white topped #5 Goldey-Beacom, 6-4, and #1 Southern New Hampshire, 8-3. The maroon and white improved to 25-10 on the year.
Game One: #3 Molloy 6, #5 Goldey-Beacom 4
- Freshman Garrett Scavelli hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first to put Molloy ahead 1-0.
- In the second, graduate student James Messina grounded out to score junior Vincent Pecora, who stole three bases and scored two runs, to put the Lions ahead 2-0.
- Scavelli, who tallied one hit and two RBIs, hit a sacrifice fly, which scored graduate student Sean Hogan, to increase the advantage to 3-0.
- Pecora scored on an error, and senior Peter Theodorellis hit a sacrifice fly, which scored sophomore David Franchi, to extend the advantage to 5-0 in the sixth.
- Messina, who recorded two hits and drove in two runs, added a solo home run in the eighth to make it 6-0.
- Goldey-Beacom plated four runs in the ninth.
- Graduate student Timothy Panetta, who moved into second place all-time with his 18th win, pitched six shutout innings, gave up four hits, and struck out nine to improve to 7-2 on the season.
- Sophomore Robert Lucano threw three innings and struck out one for his first save of the season.
Game Two: #3 Molloy 8, #1 SNHU 3
- The Penmen jumped ahead 1-0 in the second.
- The Lions plated five runs in the third to take a 5-1 advantage. Senior Matt Overton started the inning with an RBI single. Scaverlli, who tallied two hits and one RBI, walked with the bases loaded, redshirt junior Thomas Brady grounded into a fielder's choice to score Scavelli and Hogan, who collected two hits, scored on an error. Pecora capped the rally with an RBI single.
- SNHU scored one run in the third and fourth to cut the maroon and white's lead to 5-3.
- In the sixth, Franchi grounded into a fielder's choice, which plated Scavelli, Messina scored Brady, who scored two runs and drove in one run, on a sac fly, and Pecora scored on an error.
- Senior Ryan Karp threw five shutout innings, gave up one hit, and struck out five to move to 2-0 on the year.
