Historic Baseball Season Ends at Regional Championship

Rindge, N.H. - The 2021 baseball campaign ended in the deciding game of the NCAA East Regional Championship as #2 Molloy was topped by #1 Southern New Hampshire University, 9-2. The East Coast Conference Champions conclude the season with a 25-11 record, making it to the Regional Tournament for the first time since 2016 and advancing further than any team in the program's history.

How it Happened
  • In the bottom of the first inning, senior Peter Theodorellis and graduate student Sean Hogan singled to set the table for senior Matt Overton's single to right field, giving the maroon and white the early 1-0 lead.
  • The Penmen responded by immediately tying the game on a solo home run from Dakota Mulcay in the first at bat of the second inning. Gradute student starting pitcher Joe Minucci retired the next three batters in order to limit the damage and keep the score knotted.
  • SNHU scored two runs the following inning on an RBI single and an RBI double to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Senior Jake McCarthy led off the bottom of the fourth with a double to left field before advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a ground out from Overton to bring Molloy within one, 3-2.
  • The teams combined for just one hit through the next two innings before SNHU plated three runs on four hits to take a 6-2 lead after seven innings.
  • The Penmen added another three runs on three hits in the eighth inning to set the score at 9-.2
  • The Lions had runners in scoring position in both the eighth and ninth innings, including the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to plate any runs.
Top Performances
