Scavelli, Franchi Power Baseball Past Franklin Pierce in NCAA East Regional

Rindge, N.H. – The #3 Molloy baseball team defeated the #4 Franklin Pierce Ravens, 13-5, Thursday afternoon at Papas Field in the first day of the NCAA East Regional. The Lions improved to 22-9 on the season, while the Ravens fell to 22-10 overall. The win was the maroon and white's first in an NCAA Regional.

How it Happened
  • The Ravens scored two runs in the first to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Franklin Pierce tallied one run in the top of fourth to go ahead 3-0.
  • Molloy answered with a four-run bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 advantage. Freshman Garrett Scavelli hit a three-run home run to right, and sophomore David Franchi hit an RBI double to right.
  • The Lions extended their lead to 10-3 with six runs in the seventh. Scavelli hit a three-run double to right center, and Franchi hit a three-run home run to right center.
  • The Ravens scored one run in the eighth.
  • The maroon and white increased its lead to 13-4 in the bottom of the eighth. Franchi hit an RBI single, senior Peter Theodorellis hit a sac fly, and graduate student Sean Hogan hit an RBI single.
Top Performances
  • Scavelli drove in six runs, tallied four hits, and scored three runs.
  • Franchi tallied five RBIs, four hits, and scored two runs.
  • Hogan and Theodorellis drove in one run, and graduate student James Messina added two hits.
  • Graduate student Timothy Panetta, who tied Dennis Conroy for second all-time with 17 wins, threw six innings gave up three runs, on five hits, and struck out six to improve to 6-2 on the season.
  • Junior Christopher Wiercinski struck out three batters in three innings pitched for his first save the season.
