Rindge, N.H. – The #3 Molloy baseball team went 1-1 in the NCAA East Regional Saturday at Pappas Field. The Lions topped #5 Goldey-Beacom, 3-2, and fell to #1 Southern New Hampshire, 9-3. The maroon and white are 23-10.
Game One: #3 Molloy 3, #5 Goldey-Beacom 2
- Goldey-Beacom took a 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
- In the fifth, freshman David Franchi, who recorded two hits, hit an RBI double down the right field line to knot the score, 1-1.
- Redshirt junior Thomas Brady hit an RBI single to put Molloy ahead 2-1 in the eighth.
- Senior Peter Theodorellis hit a sacrifice fly to left field, which scored Franchi and made it 3-1 in the ninth.
- The Lightning scored a run in the bottom of the ninth.
- Graduate student Sean Hogan tallied two hits and scored one run.
- Sophomore Charlie Cucchiara threw a complete game, gave up two runs on five hits, and struck out eight to improve to 5-2 on the season.
Game Two: #1 Southern New Hampshire 9 , #3 Molloy 3
- The Penmen scored three runs in the top of the first and tallied one run in the top of the second and third to take a 5-0 advantage.
- In the bottom of the third, Hogan hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-1.
- SNHU plated three runs in the fourth to increase its advantage to 8-1.
- The Penmen plated one run in the sixth to make it 9-1.
- Freshman Garrett Scavelli hit a two-run home run to center in the sixth to cut the top-seed's lead to 9-3.
- Hogan and senior Matt Overton registered two hits apiece.
