Brady Nets Career-High 18 Points in Men's Basketball's Win at CSI

 
Staten Island, N.Y. – The men's basketball team earned their first road win of the season, defeating the College of Staten Island, 65-52, Saturday afternoon. The Lions improve to 2-7 and 2-0 in ECC play, while the Dolphins fall to 2-6 and 1-2 in ECC play.
 
How It Happened
  • A pair of three-pointers from junior Colin Brady and senior Steven Torre contributed to an opening 8-3 run for the Lions, leading with 18:00 minutes to go in the first half.
  • The home team cut the Molloy lead to one, 15-14, with 10:50 remaining in the opening stanza.
  • The Lions went on a 5-0 scoring run in 51 seconds, all five points coming from Brady, the road team led 20-14.
  • Staten Island went on a 10-4 scoring run, tying the contest at 24 with under three minutes remaining.
  • Molloy scored the last six points of the half, coming from graduate student Justin Caldwell, junior Frankie Phelan, and Torre, taking a 30-24 lead into the locker room.
  • After the break, the maroon and white came out quickly, extending their lead to 15, 39-24, off a 9-0 run, with 14:57 to play.
  • A lay up from freshman Sey Dieng gave the Lions' their largest lead of the game, 45-27, with 10:41 remaining.
  • The Dolphins would not go down easily, putting together a 12-3 run, cutting the Lions lead to nine, 48-39, with under seven minutes to go.
  • Consecutive layups from Dieng and freshman Darren Fergus put the Lions ahead by 13, 52-39, and they would not look back after that, holding the Dolphins to 28 percent shooting to close out the victory.
 
Top Performances
  • Brady paced the Lions with a career-high 18 points, game-high seven rebounds, while shooting 7-of-14 from the field.
  • Fergus netted 14 points, including going a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line, while adding a game-high four assists, and swiping two steals.
  • Torre tallied 11 points, shooting 50 percent from the field, to go along with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
  • Phelan stuffed the stat sheet finishing with 10 points, pulled down five rebounds, dished out two assists, and two steals.

The Lions continue their road trip Wednesday, December 15 as they travel to Flushing to take on Queens College. Tip-off from Fitzgerald Gymnasium is set for 7:30 p.m.
