Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The men's basketball team topped the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia, 66-56, Wednesday evening to begin ECC play. The Lions improve to 1-6 and 1-0 in ECC play on the season with the win, while UDC falls to 1-6 and 0-1 in league play.
How It Happened
- Redshirt Sophomore Kendell Ogilvie scored four of the Lions first five points to begin the contest. The Lions led 5-3 with 16:18 remaining in the first half.
- The home team put together a 10-2 scoring run with 8:48 to play, freshmen Sey Dieng and Darren Fergus paved the way scoring four points a piece, with Molloy holding an 18-10 lead.
- The road team trimmed the deficit to four, as the Firebirds turned in a 7-3 run, trailing 21-17 with 7:07 to go in the opening stanza.
- Molloy scored the final four points in the half, taking a 32-23 lead into the locker room.
- The maroon and white began the second half quickly, going on an 11-1 scoring run, highlighted by Fergus' seven points. The Lions led 43-24 with 17:10 remaining in the closing half.
- The Lions held their largest lead of the game at 19, 49-30, with 14:33 remaining following a jumper from Ogilvie.
- Over the next ten minutes of game time, UDC went on a 19-9 scoring run, trimming the Lions' lead to eight, 58-50, with four minutes remaining in regulation.
- Four consecutive points from senior Steven Torre increased the Lions' lead to 12, 62-50, with 2:41 remaining in the contest.
- The home team led by as much as 14, 64-50, in the closing minutes, en route to the 66-56 victory.

- Fergus had a game-high 17 points, grabbing four rebounds in 38 minutes played.
- Ogilvie collected his first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and bringing down a career-high 16 rebounds.
- Dieng netted 12 points, on 5-of-8 shooting, in 29 minutes off the bench
- Torre tallied 10 points, shooting a 50 percent clip from the field.
- Junior Frankie Phelan added four points, four assists, and three steals.
