North Easton, Mass. – The men's basketball team fell to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College this afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium, 78-58. The Lions fall to 0-6 on the season with the loss while Stonehill improves to 5-1.
How It Happened
- Freshman Darren Fergus and junior William Muller scored eight of Molloy's first ten points, trailing 12-10 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half.
- The Skyhawks put together a 15-5 run over the next five minutes of game time before freshman Sey Dieng hit a jumper from behind the arc to stop the scoring run with under eight minutes to play.
- The maroon and white answered with a run of its own, outscoring Stonehill 10-1, highlighted by freshman Kenny Lazo's six points. The Lions trailed 34-29 with 3:22 to go in the opening half.
- Stonehill concluded the half with a 7-0 run, to head into the locker room with a 41-29 lead.
- Senior Steven Torre began the second half with a three, trimming the deficit to nine.
- The home team answered with a 8-0 run, leading 49-32 with 13:47 to go in the second half.
- Muller ended the scoring run by sinking a layup on a pass from Lazo to bring Molloy within 15, 49-34, but that was as close as the Lions would come in the final 13 minutes of play.
- Shooting at a .520 percent clip from the field in the second half, Stonehill led by as much as 23 in the final minutes en route to the 78-58 victory.
Top Performers
- Muller led the Lions in points (14), rebounds (12), and tied a game-high of three blocks, going 6-of-12 from the field, while collecting his second double-double of the season.
- Fergus tallied 10 points and dished out a team-high five assists.
- Dieng netted 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting in 25 minutes off the bench.
- Lazo compiled a final line score of six points, four assists, and two rebounds.
- Freshman Billy Reyes added six points shooting 2-of-3 from behind the three-point line.
